Valley Crisis Center prefers collecting new donations for survivors. Having new items helps a survivor feel valued. However, we will also accept gently used items. Please limit the donation of used items to two bags as Valley Crisis Center has limited storage capacity at our office.
Please see the list at the bottom for items we cannot accept for health and safety reasons.
Valley Crisis Center’s Safe Houses and Transitional Housing often provides basic needs to clients. As part of our mission to be culturally aware, we also try to ensure appropriate foods are provided as well. We are always accepting gift cards to both national grocery store chains and local ones (if available)
Valley Crisis Center shelters people who are fleeing intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Often these survivors did not have time to gather needed clothing.
We are in need of:
We often need schools supplies for both our adult and child shelter residents.
While our office locations always need art supplies, these materials are shared with our safe house for the groups they hold in the shelter.
Our counseling team is always in need of art supplies for both our peer counseling sessions and our support group. We also use art supplies to entertain children while their parent is receiving services.
We would like to continue to be able to offer snacks to our support groups, however snacks are limited to donations due to funding.
We are in need of the following:
When someone is sexually assaulted and they report the crime to the police, sometimes the police officer will see if the survivor would like to get a forensic exam (SART) so they can collect evidence. This is optional and a survivor is never forced to go through this procedure. However, it can be a very invasive one that can result in the survivor having to leave their clothing behind for evidence. They must also not eat or drink prior to the appointment. For survivors in Merced County, the only SART exam is held in Los Baños. There are times when the location in Los Baños is not available and survivors are transported to Frenso or Madera (for children) instead.
Valley Crisis Center attempts to provide a SART Bag, a draw string bag that contains a set of clothing, toiletries, and a snack for the survivor to have after the exam.
Any donation on the list below will help survivors tremendously.
The entire process from reporting to police and completing the exam can hours. By donating gift cards to the following places, you can help us provide a meal to the survivor once the exam is completed. The more variety of gift cards we have, the more options the survivor can choose from.
To provide a small comfort to survivors and to include in our SART Bag, we always need the following items:
Valley Crisis Center does many different types of outreach in the community. Often we bring candy or other individually wrapped items as an incentive for audience participation.
Sometimes when Valley Crisis Center is invited to a community event, one of the requirements is to bring a prize for a raffle. Sometimes, Valley Crisis Center holds events where we offer raffle prizes. Any donation towards a raffle prize will be attributed to the donor.
Valley Crisis Center receives many donations from the public. We are always grateful for the things we get from the people who support our program.
However, there are items we do get donated that we cannot accept and often have to throw away or pass along to to other non-profits.
We cannot accept:
